“You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil”
– The Sorting Hat

Hufflepuff House 411
Founder: Helga Hufflepuff
Head of House: Professor Sprout
House Ghost(s): Fat Friar

While Gryffindors are courageous and known for their bravery, Hufflepuffs are known for their hard work, tempered minds, honesty and loyalty amongst friends.  However, while they value work hard they are not competitive as some of the other houses are (like Slytherin and Gryffindor, for example). The Hufflepuff House can be seen as ‘Switzerland’ – they are neutral and just want to get a long with everyone.  However, despite their calm and even tempered qualities, it is believed that when a student is sorted into this house it is because they do not have any qualities that really stand out – this comes from the fact that Helga Hufflepuff believed that any student should be allowed to participate in the House Cup competition.  But Hufflepuff is not without their own stars….

My Favorite Characters from Hufflepuff
Cedric Diggory… oh Cedric… I am not even going to on about the actor that plays him in the movie (squeel)….Cedric was made to be a star:  he’s captain of the his house Quidditch Team and their Seeker as well as a Prefect.  For the Hufflepuff house it is a no brainer that he is the one chosen to represent their house in the Triwizard Tournament.  Cedric’s ‘friendship’ with Harry is an odd one… both Cedric and Harry are more alike than they know.  They are both in the spot light, even though it seems Cedric welcomes it much more.  Even though Cedric’s popularity in the Triwizard Tournament is overshadowed by Harry’s inclusion (mainly by Rita Skeeter’s doing) he steps back in a way to let Harry have the main spot light, but at the same time doesn’t really go out of his way to stop rumors spreading that Harry entered his own name into the Goblet of Fire, even though he is underage (it is unclear ether Cedric believes that Harry did or did not put his name in the Goblet).

No matter what Cedric believes about Harry, their ‘friendship’ is one of mutual respect and adirmation.  You can see this when Harry warns Cedric about the first task including dragons and Cedric informs Harry he should take his dragon egg to the Preferct’s Bathroom.  Their ‘friendship’ accumulates in last and 3rd task of the Tournament when they work together – in the end Cedric puts himself in front of Harry when Scabbers shows up at the graveyard.  Unlike his House characteristics, Cedric is brave and strong minded; however like his House characteristics he is respectful and loyal.

I love Nymphadora Tonks! She is fun and quirky! She is the best friend/sister I would love to have.  Her skills and studies as an Auror (she studied under Mad Eye Moody) brought her to the The Order of the Phoenix.  Her fight against Lord Voldemort is fueled more by the fact that she is Bellatrix Lestrange’s niece.  Despite this dark fact, she is lively and exciting.  She excels as concealing things – she can change her appearance at will – – this is because she is a Metamorphmagus.    Being a Metamorphmagus makes is a no brainer that she married and had a child with Lupin, and Animagus (but I can tell you I was actually a bit surprised when this happened…).

Nymphadora was in the thick of it all in the many battles against Voldemort: The Astronomy Tower, bringing the 7 Harrys to safety, and the Battle at Hogwarts.  No one can say that she is not strong, brave, and honest – – I wonder why she wasn’t placed in Gryffindor.
