For Rose Hathaway, everything seems out of kilter. Ever since she made her first Strigoi kills, a dark shadow has been creeping over her. Looming in the background, too, is another realization: If she follows her forbidden love for guardian Dimitri Belikov, she might lose her best friend forever. And these sleep-shaking worries couldn’t have come at a worse time. The immortal unloving are prowling everywhere, famished for vengeance against her. An adrenaline-laced episode of the teen pop favorite Vampire Academy.

This series just keeps getting better and better with each passing page! It is hard to believe that I am already halfway through the entire series….Vampire Academy set the stage for the whole series, Frostbite delved into the many relationships in Rose’s life, and Shadow Kiss explores these relationships a bit more while at the same time revealing more about what it really means to be “Shadow Kissed”.

A Changed Rose ~ Rose changes in this novel drastically.  After seeing her friend murdered by a Strigoi, Rose struggles with being who she was before, which in turn affects other aspects of her life.  One most important is that she sees ghosts now, in particular Mason.  She also has a new “power” in  which she can sense when Strigoi are near – this comes into play in a very exciting and surprising way!  However, Despite this change in Rose she becomes more secretive from everyone, including Lissa and Dimitri. It is not that she doesn’t want to talk to anyone she just doesn’t want to burden others and at times even wonders who would support her completely.

Rose’s Duty as a Guardian ~ Rose has always known that by being a Guardian her best friend and bond-mate, Lisa, is always supposed to come first.  In Shadow Kiss, Rose realizes this even more.  However, Rose’s and Lissa’s friendship changes a little too. It is put to the test – the question is will it endure…..

Rose and Dimitri ~ well…. what can be said about these two.  As always, their relationship is a roller coaster and when I enjoyed fully.  Rose has to find a way to trust in Dimitri with her newfound “powers” while at the same time they both try to accept the fact that it is best to not be together because of their promised roles as Lissa’s Guardians (she must come first, ALWAYS).

An End and a New Beginning ~ by the end of the book, the plot twists around completely.  Without giving too much away, all that can be said is that readers will be surprised.  Their dreams about the characters will come true but will also be shattered and surprised.

Richelle Mead as the Writer ~ Richelle Mead has yet again created a success.  Her writing style is flawless!  The plot is clearly well thought out and pulls at the heart strings and emotions, setting it apart from other Vampire novels.  Each character is redeveloped in each succeeding installment, shinning new light on their role in Rose’s life (as this is about Rose) and their affect in her future.  My goals and dreams for this book were met and well surpassed. I cannot wait to read the next installment Blood Promise
